History of RIHA INC

Indoor Hockey first began in Rockhampton in 1978 when fixtures were played on a concrete surface at the Skating Rink. For this inaugural season only, social fixtures were played and the game was enjoyed by young and old.

The sport became so popular that in the following season competitive fixtures commenced. The beginning of the 1979 season also saw a change of venues from the Skating Rink to the Present Police Citizen Youth Club Hall Stapleton Park North Rockhampton - where it was played there up until December 1986.

Unfortunately due to the PCYC catering for many varied sports we were only able to obtain Thursday nights and Sunday Afternoons/evenings for our fixtures. We are sure that if more time was available we would have had more teams playing Indoor Hockey than the 16 teams in the Women's and 13 teams in the Men's in 1985.

From 1986 until the Present Day Rockhampton Indoor Hockey has been played at YWCA Hall North Rockhampton Qld 4701. During this time we have played a Season at North Rockhampton State High School Assembly Hall.

Rockhampton Indoor Hockey is proud of the fact that we have sent Teams the every State Titles - (now Team Challenges) since the inception of the Qld Indoor Hockey - (Now Hockey Qld) Championships.

Rockhampton Indoor Hockey has had several of its representatives Selected for Qld teams and have gone on to be selected in Australian Indoor Teams.

In 2008 /2009 Season Rockhampton Indoor Hockey Celebrated its 30th Anniversary and we 23 had teams competing that Season.
